For Sophia, climbing started as a school summer sports option at Uprising in Christchurch. What began as a fun way to spend an afternoon quickly became something much bigger. Drawn to the problem solving, movement, and challenge of climbing, she soon found herself spending every spare moment on the wall. Years later, climbing continues to shape how she trains, travels, and experiences the world
A young and ambitious climber from Redcliffs, Sophia embraces every side of the sport. From technical indoor competitions to long days on remote rock, she thrives on the variety climbing offers. Whether working through complex boulder problems in the gym or linking moves on demanding sport routes outdoors, she is driven by learning, improvement, and pushing her limits in every environment.
Shared passion
Since joining the Flying Geckos Climbing Club and training alongside some of Christchurch’s strongest young climbers, Sophia has built an impressive climbing resume. She has competed across New Zealand and Australia, earned several podium finishes, and gained valuable international experience. Competition climbing has sharpened her focus and technical ability, while also connecting her with a supportive community of
athletes who share her passion.
